:: Multitudes on Mondays: A Beginning ::

I'm currently working through Ann Voskamp's book, "One Thousand Gifts."  Talk about entering into a sister's Journey-moments!  If you haven't read it, let me give you a warning: Friend, this piece isn't one of those "candy books" that you read through in a couple days to satisfy your craving for a good word and move on.  It's a "chew it over" book.  I can't get very far because I find myself going back and re-reading the same sections over and over again and each time I do, I'm overwhelmed with a new fragrance of God's love and Truth.  I honestly cannot tell you how long it will take me to get through it - but, I will push through because I know that in the pages, God will meet with me.  He will use the life experience and turns in the path that Ann has walked around to bless and encourage me.  I'm anticipating those pages - excited and nervous about what He is going to teach me.

Here are the words from one of those pages that flew up and grappled with my heart this week...

"The root word of eucharisteo is charis, meaning 'grace.'  Jesus took the bread and saw it as grace and gave thanks.  He took the bread and knew it to be a gift and gave thanks.
But there is more, and I read it.  Eucharisteo, thanksgiving, envelopes the Greek word for grace, charis.  But it also holds its derivative, the Greek word chara, meaning 'joy.'  Ah...yes.  I might be needing me some of that.  That might be what the quest for more is all awbout - that which Augustine claimed, 'Without expection...all try their hardest to reach the same goal that is joy.'"

As part of my work through "One Thousand Gifts," I've decided to jump on board with the community of fellow Travelers who take a few moments each day/week to "give thanks."  Each Monday, they link up and there you can find encouragement and peek into another's Offering of Thanksgiving.  Nothing is off limits in the "thanksgiving" department - nothing too small...we are to give thanks in everything, right?  (1 Thess. 5:19)

Here is my humble beginning of "embracing eucharisteo"...
